hoşgeldin Ramazan!

Screen Shot 2017-05-26 at 10.26.22 PMIt’s that time of year again – ramazan! Our fast begins tomorrow so this friday was our last day for a month that we can eat and drink during daylight hours. (yes I really enjoyed my oatmeal and coffee) And it will be our first one here in bodrum. They were testing out the canon earlier this evening, since it’s traditional to fire a canon to signal the breaking of the fast. 🙂 I’m not yet in the groove of making meal plans and prepping… well, I am always thinking of meal plans but not iftar and suhuur ones so we shall see. Mostly all the summer fruits and veggies are out so there are so many yummy options. I was thinking about ramadan last year, and how the euro cup was happening so my fasting days went by pretty quickly (at least during the group phase when there were 3 matches a day!) I was also thinking about our bosphorus view and how pretty the light was just before dawn and hearing the call to prayer all around. It will be nice to make new memories in our new home, but too bad no football madness to keep me busy when i’m cooking. Thunderstorms are in the forecast for tomorrow, so hopefully we’ll have a not too hot month. Last year I remember it also being very pleasant, until about the last week or so when it got hot and humid.

Here’s to a happy, healthy, and peaceful ramazan! [and let’s not forget the ramazan pidesi either. can’t wait to see if we can find a yummy one here in bitez. oh boy!]

thank you ma merest! yes I wish I could share the pide with you too… we have two bakeries in bitez making it, and our favorite (which is closer to how arnavutkoy’s was) now is the one without the line…but both are yummy. and yes, the big ovens and the smell of baking bread….mmm mmm!
